Residential Bath:

Award Winning Integral Sink and Countertop

MJ Neal Architects and the residential client wanted modern, clean lines in the master and guest baths of this new, museum-style South Austin home.

Given specific dimensions for the countertop and sink, Newbold Stone offered options that included a hidden drain and a unique form that placed the drain piping within the wall instead of beneath the sink. This approach ensured a minimalist aesthetic by hiding the plumbing in the wall.

Newbold Stone suggested an additional detail to provide a towel rack solution that would blend with the clean lines. A simple open slot was incorporated beside the sink, positioned to hold a towel, yielding an interesting, yet functional, architectural element.

In the guest bath, the design called for the thinnest possible countertop. By using the latest technologies and materials, Newbold Stone created a seamless, single-cast concrete countertop with integral sink and cabinet side-panel, plus shelf, which is a mere half inch thick.

This Newbold Stone master bath installation was awarded the 2009 Circle of Distinction national award by Cheng Concrete Exchange, which recognizes exceptional design and craftsmanship, technical skill, appropriateness to project scope and overall aesthetic appeal.
