Residential Kitchen:
Hyde Park Complementary Colors
The owners of this vintage 30s home in Hyde Park selected concrete as their kitchen countertop medium due to its customizability in both color and personal detail. Newbold Stone came recommended and delivered above expectations from design consultation, through a number of different color samples to final product.
The home already drew upon a rich array of colors and textures, mixing earth tones and exposed grain hardwoods with vibrant, whimsical shades in both paint and glass. Thus, choices of color, texture and luster were paramount. Instead of limiting the owners to one color, Newbold Stone assisted them in selecting two colors, finishes and feature sets to meet their expectations.
The majority of the kitchen surfaces draw on earthy, sandy tones of a dark curry with a texture that exposes just a hint of the reddish brown aggregate yielding a warm and natural feel. As a contrast, the center island, often the focal point of the kitchen was poured in a Newbold Stone signature color, Green Tea Ice Cream. This surface exposed only the lightest sand layer and none of the aggregate for a monochromatic and polished look and feel.
The terrestrial nature of the installation was highlighted with several owner-picked decorative stones and fossils and exposed aggregate around the sinks.
