Environment
When seeking an eco-friendly countertop option, concrete often comes to mind as it has a unique structural efficiency and inherently green qualities like a capacity to reduce recurring embodied energy, low maintenance requirements and high durability. Many other popular countertop materials, like granite and marble, are mined from non-renewable sources and transported great distances to reach their final destination. Since concrete is manufactured from common materials like clay, it can be produced closer to the final destination and without stripping the earth of limited resources.
Newbold Stone embraces concrete’s environmentally friendly attributes and has participated in a number of green home projects. Our product typically contains between 10% and 50% recycled content and contains no resins. All of the sealants, pigments and modifiers that we use are low-VOC.
Furthermore, our business practices are sustainable, when compared to many of the alternatives:
Unlike other concrete craftsmen, who use prepared bag mixes delivered from vast distances, Newbold Stone uses primarily local components, saving transport energy
Newbold Stone substitutes some of the Portland Cement normally used in a countertop with recycled fiberglass, reducing total environmental impact of the materials
Newbold Stone reclaims most mold materials, recycling them for repeated use
Newbold Stone has optimized processes to eliminate water-intensive wet polishing
Unlike other countertop materials, Newbold Stone pours concrete into the desired shape, thereby eliminating scrap and waste byproduct
Of the many available countertop options, Newbold Stone concrete delivers the most dramatic design impact with the least environmental impact.
