A buyer's guide to custom precast concrete fire pits covering round, linear, and custom shapes, gas vs wood burning options, what they cost, and how long fabrication and delivery take.
Custom Concrete Fire Pits: Sizes, Fuel Options, Pricing, and Lead Times
If you are pricing a custom concrete fire pit, you are probably looking for three answers: what sizes are available, what it costs, and how long it takes to make. This guide covers all three, plus the fuel and seating decisions that affect the final number.
Newbold Stone has been casting architectural concrete products in the Austin area since 2001. Every fire pit we build is made to order.
How Our Fire Pits Are Made
Our fire pits are precast. Each one is cast in a mold at our facility, cured under controlled conditions, sealed, and delivered. Some assembly is required once on-site. In Central Texas we can handle that for you; outside our service area your contractor or landscaper completes it with our instructions.
Shapes and Sizes
We build three categories of fire pits.
- Round fire pits. The most common choice for gathering spaces. Available in a range of diameters to fit patios of any size. Round pits work well when seating wraps all the way around.
- Linear and rectangular fire pits. A long, low profile suited to modern homes and pool decks. Linear pits anchor one side of a seating area rather than the center.
- Custom shapes. Geometric, organic, or site-specific forms designed to fit your landscape. If you have a drawing or a sketch, we can cast from it.
Every fire pit is sized to your space. Send us the footprint you are working with and we will recommend dimensions that leave enough clearance for seating and foot traffic.
Gas or Wood Burning
This is the first decision to make because it changes the internal build of the pit.
- Natural gas or propane. Clean burning with an adjustable flame and no ash or smoke. We use Warming Trends burners, which are a leader in the market. The flame height is bigger than you think. Gas is the right choice if you want to light it with a key or a switch and skip the cleanup.
- Wood burning. Traditional fire with the crackle and smell people expect. We use Breeo inserts, which pull in secondary air for a near smokeless burn and keep your concrete cool.
- Dual fuel. Select designs can accommodate both. We know not everyone was a Boy Scout or Girl Scout, so lighting a fire can be tough. We integrate a propane igniter to help.
Gas pits need a gas line or propane connection on site. Wood pits do not, which can simplify installation on a remote patio.
Color and Finish
We offer integral color, meaning the pigment is mixed through the concrete rather than applied to the surface. Finishes range from smooth to textured.
Every fire pit is cast with a heat-resistant concrete formulation and sealed with a weather and UV resistant coating. They are built to stay outside year-round.

How Much a Custom Concrete Fire Pit Costs
Pricing depends on four things.
- Size. Larger diameters and longer linear pits use more material and larger molds.
- Fuel type. Gas burners and the hardware that goes with them cost more than a wood-burning insert.
- Shape complexity. Standard round and rectangular forms cost less than custom geometry.
- Seating and add-ons. Integrated benches, custom color, and specialty finishes each add to the total.
Typical range: $2,500 to $6,000.
Shipping is built into your quote. Installation is available in Central Texas and is included in the quote when it applies.
Lead Times
Fabrication typically takes 3 to 6 weeks from approved design to finished piece. Custom shapes run toward the longer end of that range.
